How is it that Barrack Obama, who could possibly be elected our next President, is allowed to run for office after admitting to Cocaine use, but I can't get a job with the FBI or Secret Service because I smoked marijuana more than ten times in my life? I have been clean for over ten years while in the military too... WTF..?How is it...?
According to recent reports, at least the FBI is dropping that restriction, finding that a lot of talented people turn out ot have smoked pot more than ten times.
The new rule is going to be no use in the last seven years.

Clinton admitted to smoking pot too! But I agree if we can elect drug users past or present we should be able to hire a few cleaned up people to our police forces and government agencies! My bro in law was turned down from the La state police for using pot in college although he was clean for like 5 years when he applied
I and most of my coworkers have been investigated and received clearances many times. Smoking pot more than ten years ago will not prevent you from getting Confidential or Secret Clearance as long as you admit to it. I know a woman who was a pretty heavy cocaine user at one time. She never got busted for it. But on her application she was up front about it.
Now don't get me wrong. Her clearance was delayed and she was interviewed by some people from the NSA but she was eventually granted her clearance.
This may not be true for higher levels of clearance but it is certainly true for most clearances required to work for government contractors or police departments. If you were arrested or convicted for a drug charge that may be a different story.

I don't have a problem with this, if you don't like him for this, don't vote for him, it's that simple, this is a democracy, the voters should be the ones to decide whether or not this issue should invalidate someone from the presidency.
