How can you not believe anti-drug and anti-prostitution laws are the most lucrative?

I wish there was a way to comment on an answer rather than asking a question These laws raise revenue through seizures Small enough numbers but a home-town poilce station might get a new fleet and room full of computers with a single big bust on some tiny farmer's field But there is more There are people whose job it is to build the jails, to man the jails, to fill the jails, to feed the jailed, to pay for the farmers to grow the jailed people's food (forgetting about that back acre of pot he grows because he is not paid enough to meet his expenses) There is the entire structure of the DEA who would suddenly see 3/4 of their jobs vanish And we're just talking pot, not powder The local police need a paycheck too just like the FBI (granting that pot is only a percentage of their necessary work) Pot and Prostitution are so ingrained in our society, we COULDN';T make them legal We'd loose too much money, jobs and security I liked comment giving sex away but not but not legally selling itHow can you not believe anti-drug and anti-prostitution laws are the most lucrative?
Short answer is to analyze the cost of enforcement vs. revenue from fines.

My answer is to follow the government's example of alcohol and cigarettes: Publicly shame and wag your finger at its consumers, but go swimming in the lake of tax revenues after the cameras are turned off.How can you not believe anti-drug and anti-prostitution laws are the most lucrative?
I do believe it! I know you are commenting on another question, but it is obvious, given any thought whatsoever.
most of the folks i came into contact with that was arrested for pot, never pays fines anyway, therfore add to the unpaid expenses. i patrolled in rural area for ten years and never once have i seen a farmer growing weed. and every car we had.clocked 250 thousand or more miles of service. big cities may have a prostitue issue but they dont pay fines either. in fact, they welcome the oppertunity of jail so they can go to the doctor for free. you have no clue.
It doesn't bother me one bit if the laws are lucrative (and I hope they are). They are good laws that protect the most innocent and most vulnerable in our society.
